About Me
“Photography is to be present.”
— Libuše Jarcovjáková
Bio
My name is Alyte Katilius and I am a photographer and photojournalist.
In my work I am particularly passionate about stories concerning women and their roles as athletes, citizens, workers, leaders, sisters, friends, and mothers. I've recently been inspired by personal and social documentary photographers, one of which is quoted above, as a way to enact change in the world.
I hope that my visual storytelling can pierce through the veil of numbness so many of us are experiencing as it relates to the news, and evoke a sense of shared humanity.
Personal Style
My goal is to build lasting bonds of trust with the community I serve and to always be truthful in my representaiton of its members. In other words, I view my craft as a collaboration between myself and the community. I cannot do my job without the acceptance, respect, and trust of the people I work with.
I shoot every assignment with a curious and exploring eye. I tend to be attracted to dramatic lighting, layering, and graphic composition. Naturally short, I have a unique point of view that has been to my great advantage.
Experience
I most recently worked as the staff photographer, photo editor, and videographer for the Wyoming Tribune Eagle in Cheyenne, WY. I was responsible for the paper's visuals across online, print, and social media platforms, as well as our sister publications, WyoSports and The Laramie Boomerang.
Previously I have also worked for MLive, The State News, LTnews, and I've contributed to People Magazine.
Over the years I have also accepted freelance work in family, concert/album, sports, and business photography.
